SALT LAKE CITY, June 20, 2007 – OSF Healthcare System in Peoria, IL. and The Nebraska Medical Center of Omaha, NE have selected real-time electronic surveillance and expert clinical decision support systems provided by TheraDoc® Inc., a clinical informatics company headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT. OSF's acute care facilities and The Nebraska Medical Center, a 689 licensed bed academic medical center, will implement the TheraDoc Expert System Platform® (ESP) and its suite of Knowledge Modules to address patient safety threats, such as hospital-acquired infections, antimicrobial-resistant diseases and adverse drug events.
OSF, counted among the top 25 Integrated Healthcare Networks in the nation, will implement the ESP and Knowledge Modules throughout six of its seven acute care facilities located in Illinois and Michigan beginning with OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL
TheraDoc's Infection Control Assistant® (ICA) will provide automated, real-time infection surveillance, intelligent alerts, and timely analysis of infections that threaten patient safety. The ICA leverages clinical data from multiple sources - including real-time information from laboratory, radiology and surgery departments - promptly delivering relevant patient information and medical knowledge to an Infection Control Professional's fingertips.
Dr. Robert White, Chief Medical Officer of Clinical Informatics at OSF, stated, "OSF will utilize TheraDoc technology to improve current workflows and information management and, most importantly, the quality and safety of patient care. In our analysis of clinical decision support systems, TheraDoc was not only a natural fit with its business intelligence model for OSF and our caregivers' clinical decision support needs, it also provides the real-time infection surveillance and reporting solutions needed to comply with state mandatory reporting of hospital-acquired infections."
The Nebraska Medical Center will implement TheraDoc technology to enhance its long-standing Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship programs. The Infection Control Assistant and Antibiotic Assistant's real-time patient information and decision-making tools will not only assist The Nebraska Medical Center in tracking important trends and maximizing patient care, they will also eliminate hours of manually collecting data and quickly focus clinicians' attention on patients and events requiring intervention.
"Our mission is to positively impact patient safety and outcome measures through the prudent use of antimicrobial agents and management of infectious disease," said Dr. Mark Rupp, Medical Director, Healthcare Epidemiology and Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at The Nebraska Medical Center. "We believe that TheraDoc will be an invaluable tool in achieving this mission through its ability to create a comprehensive, real-time stream of data gathered from the pharmacy, microbiology lab, patient admissions, x-ray and other critical care departments."
In its search for clinical decision support technology, The Nebraska Medical Center utilized a 21-item checklist of design features that would support its Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship programs. "TheraDoc technology provided solutions for the majority of the features we identified," added Elizabeth Hermsen, Pharm. D., M.B.A. "Its ability to provide real-time, point-of-care and patient-specific information, evidence-based recommendations and alerts, satisfied our Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship initiatives. It truly was the only technology available that addressed our needs."Stan Pestotnik, TheraDoc president and CEO, said, "We are privileged to implement our technology to further improve patient safety measures at both OSF Healthcare System and The Nebraska Medical Center. TheraDoc has a non-negotiable adherence to healthcare industry standards and best practice solutions in our effort to improve patient safety and care, along with financial outcomes for healthcare institutions and their patients."
