The Atlanta VAMC Licenses Real-Time Injury Detection and Prevention Systems by TheraDoc®

Another Veterans Hospital Selects TheraDoc's Innovative Clinical Solutions

SALT LAKE CITY, January 22, 2007 – The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) has joined the increasing roster of Veterans Hospitals electing to license injury detection and prevention systems developed by TheraDoc® Inc. (www.theradoc.com). TheraDoc is implementing its active infection surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship tools at the 173-bed teaching hospital to enhance infection control, management and prevention measures.

TheraDoc president and CEO, Stan Pestotnik, credits the company's standards-based software and real-time capabilities with attracting the attention of premier healthcare organizations such as the Atlanta VAMC.

"This hospital utilizes state-of-the-art technology that supports the delivery of high-quality healthcare to our deserving veterans," said Pestotnik. "Our software will seamlessly connect onsite with the VA's VistA®/CPRS system to enable immediate focused access to patient data. With TheraDoc, clinicians can further improve the quality and safety of patient care."

TheraDoc injury detection and prevention systems include the Expert System Platform® and knowledge modules such as the Infection Control AssistantTM and Antibiotic Assistant®. These will be integrated with Atlanta VAMC's clinical information systems to enhance the use of patients' electronic records and provide real-time data gathering, alerting and infection rate reporting capabilities.

Additional system components offered by TheraDoc include the ADE Assistant®, which monitors for adverse drug events and identifies intervention opportunities. Also available is the Clinical Alerts AssistantTM, an intelligent alerting system through which critical clinical data is delivered to clinicians in real -time via e-mail or pager.

Once implemented at the Atlanta VAMC, the Expert System Platform will provide an intuitive interface through which context-specific clinical data will be easily collected, evaluated and acted upon. It will combine patient- and disease-specific data with best-practice guidelines, translate the data into actionable patient information, and push it securely to clinicians in real-time. TheraDoc brings relevant information into a single view, reducing the time it takes to access and utilize data, enabling better decision-making and saving clinicians' valuable time.

The Infection Control Assistant, an end-to-end solution, will help infection control practitioners (ICPs) to clinically identify, confirm and document infections. It will also reduce the time it takes to identify patient-specific needs, and create accurate internal and external reports. When workflow efficiency and information access are improved, ICPs can spend more time educating others and making patient interventions, which will help prevent and mitigate infections.

The Antibiotic Assistant helps optimize the utilization of antimicrobials by monitoring patient-specific pharmacy information in conjunction with lab and microbiology results for drug/bug mismatches, renal dosing, IV to PO switch candidates and targeted drugs. Intelligent alerts will quickly notify designated clinicians as soon as this information is available.

Using the hospital's formulary and TheraDoc generated antibiograms, the Antibiotic Assistant's unique Wizard will deliver evidence-based treatment recommendations for a wide-range of syndromes to requesting clinicians. Coupled with patient-specific information and links to evidence-based medical knowledge, these recommendations will help the Atlanta VAMC to ensure more appropriate use of antimicrobials within their facility.

TheraDoc continues to design and develop additional solutions to add to its injury and detection systems, which will aid a growing group of clinicians within hospitals to make better-informed and timelier decisions that will ultimately result in improved clinical and financial outcomes.
